Bantam B/C Tryout Update

We understand that there is some uncertainty concerning the current progress of the Bantam tryouts. We want to make sure all parents and players are aware of current circumstances to ensure transparency and eliminate any uncertainty that we can.

Firstly, based on the number of players trying out for Bantam B/C it was apparent to everyone, including the evaluators, that we did not have sufficient players to fill out both a B and C roster. The decision was made to focus the remainder of this tryout process on filling out the B team. Once we have the B team announced we plan to have a meeting with parents of players interested in the C team. We are trying to ascertain why the tryout numbers were so low. Is it that players and parents are not interested in the full season C program? Is the additional cost of C turning families away? Would families prefer we chose the C team at Christmas like we have in the past and forgo the C league? Was the timing of tryouts (before house league evaluations started) something that caught families off-guard and therefore turnout was low? What, if anything, is required from the Association to get players out for tryouts in sufficient numbers to field a team in the Bantam C DJHL league this fall?

Nothing has been decided. We have not given up on the C team, but want to make sure we are providing the minor hockey experience that the majority of families are looking for.

Secondly, we have heard that some people were upset that their child did not get many skates for the tryout fee. It should be noted that this is a tryout and not sweat camp or power skating. The tryout fee is based on the cost of ice time, officials and evaluators used during the tryout process and not related to a per hour fee for players. Players are not guaranteed any specific number of skates and can (and should) be cut once it is determined that they will not make the final roster. This provides more time on ice for those players the evaluators are still looking at for the team. That said, tryouts for a C team that would be in the DJHL this fall will not be the subject of a further fee for those that already paid.
