2017 2018 HOCKEY SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE

Friday Mar 23, 2018

On Sunday March 25th we will celebrate Super Sunday, with players participating in their medal games. With Easter being early this year the hockey season is a little shorter than usual. Some of our players will participate in the provincial tournaments in a couple of weeks, and after that we all have the summer to look forward to.

We have had a successful season. There were very few weather cancellations, our DJHL, female and AAA teams have won championships and other medals. We also look forward for more success at the provincial tournaments.

This season we restructured a number of things in hope of improving the overall experience of our players and coaches. The first and most important change was bringing Technical Director Wally Bray on full time. This allowed us to increase his contact time with our players which had a positive impact on their skill development. It also allowed us to introduce new programming to our members. This included pre-season camps in September, power skating and goalie camps throughout the season, and the introduction of a spring league next month. We hope to continue with this model into the future. The members of the Board of Directors are interested in hearing your opinions on these changes. Please feel free to email your thoughts to myself or any member of the Board.

On behalf of the Board of Directors we hope everyone enjoyed the opportunity to play both recreational and competitive hockey this season. Much thanks goes out to our volunteers coaches, managers and executive members who make this all happen. Thanks to Wally Bray for his tireless work with our players and coaches, and to our new Administrator Jodi Blackwood.

Also at this time of year we say good-bye to some of our longtime volunteers as they have decided their time in minor hockey has come to an end. When you go to the rink this weekend remind your coaches that their effort was appreciated, and for those that are leaving us we thank you for your contributions.

Jack Casey
President, SJMHA
